Even if people don’t know her I’m going to ask anyway: send all your good vibes to Vanitha, OK? She and her family could really use them right now. Thanks.

    ‘UnGoogleable’

    October 6th, 2005 by Premee

Two people so far have e-mailed me this article, and I have about four main thoughts:
    a) That it must be easier to stay off Google than people think, because
    b) I have recently looked up about a dozen old friends and classmates and found that
    c) You can’t find nobody nohow, or else,
    d) Google gives you 15,000 results which no one in their right mind would pick through which therefore conceals one’s identity.

For example, I looked up an old friend named - well, I don’t think I have to bother concealing her identity because there are a lot of her out there - Leah White. Google gave me back over 9000 results, so I went through the first two pages with a look of frozen skepticism on my face. My Leah isn’t in high school, she would have graduated by now… let’s see… she hated sports, so that’s softball Leah and wrestling Leah out… I don’t think she’d be the UNI Director of Forensics at her age…maybe she’s the alumnus of K-State who just had her first baby and put the announcement in the newsletter? What if she’s the one who moved to the States and got an award for helping out people with disabilities?

And then there was the time I looked up Corey Stewart and discovered that every male in North America is named that.
Now he’s a computer freak, or was while I knew him, so you’d think he’d be everywhere on the web anyway - but he isn’t. Or well… he is… but I don’t think he’s the songwriter, footballer, pro tennis guy, Occoquan District Supervisor, eight year-old leukemia patient, fictional forest ranger, Youth of the Year in Philadelphia, or girl.

I, meanwhile, mostly appear on Google as an abbreviation for ‘premature baby,’ which B.G. Rob cleverly pointed out in his links section (which I refuse to honour by linking to it).
The moral of the story is that Google either… doesn’t know anything, or knows too much, about you.

    Calgary Entry

    October 2nd, 2005 by Premee

Calgary is good, I is no sleep, hooray for being si… no, eight blocks from work, and hooray for unsecure wireless networks because Telus is TOTALLY not giving me inner-net till after Thanksgiving.

48 minutes in my new apartment.

Wonder if I can survive till next September…
